Getting started as an expert

The order that gets you hired fastest — verify who you are, prove one thing you built, then list the work you want more of.

REWORK ranks on evidence rather than on how long your profile has been open, so the fastest route to being hired is not "fill in everything" — it is to get one real proof through review and list one thing you will do again.

The order that works

  1. 1Verify your identity. It takes minutes and unlocks the trust badge buyers filter on. Government ID for an individual, company registration for a business — both go to the same reviewer.
  2. 2Submit one proof of work. One is enough to start. Pick the piece you would show a client first, not the most technically impressive one.
  3. 3List one service. Describe the outcome a buyer buys, not the stack you use to deliver it. You can add more later.
  4. 4Turn on availability. A profile that reads as unavailable is skipped by matching regardless of score.

Everything after that is repetition: more proofs, more delivered work, better score.

What actually moves your ranking

Your Rework Score is computed server-side from verified proofs, your trust tier, delivery track record, reviews and activity. It cannot be self-edited, which is the point — it means a buyer can trust it, and it means the only way up is real work.

The two levers that move it fastest:

  • Verified proofs. Each one that passes review adds evidence and skills to your searchable profile.
  • Responsiveness. Buyers see how quickly you reply, and matching favours experts who answer.

Where the work comes from

There are four routes, and most experts end up using more than one:

  • Service listings — buyers find and order directly from your storefront.
  • Project briefs at /projects — open work you apply to.
  • Operator matching — when a buyer submits a brief, an operator shortlists from the vetted bench.
  • Rework Pool — an invite-only track where you build a free working sample for a matched business and convert it into paid work if they like it.

You do not need a subscription to be listed, to be found, or to be paid. Expert Hub adds tooling on top; it is not the price of entry.

Common first-week mistakes

  • Waiting until the profile is perfect to submit a proof. The proof is what ranks you; the bio is not.
  • Listing five services on day one. One clear listing outperforms five vague ones, and each listing needs evidence behind it.
  • Skipping identity verification. It is the single cheapest trust signal available to you, and buyers filter on it.
